How To Prevent Your Business From Going Up In Smoke

A Business Insurance Review

There are many ways your business can shut down. And when you are not operating, you are in trouble. A well-designed business insurance policy is the best way to protect your business from an unexpected shutdown. Fire is the most common loss suffered by most companies. There are several ways a fire can start at your business, so we thought we might help you prevent these.

Nine-volt batteries – These batteries have a positive and negative connection which when in contact with metal can cause heat and fire. When storing batteries or disposing of them, don’t allow them to come in contact with metal, such as steel wool, keys or items in a metal trash can.

Chemicals – Chemicals can combust if not stored correctly because some cleaning chemicals are incompatible, and when mixed, become flammable. Always review the safety data sheet regarding storage. Keep containers tightly sealed, and remove any leaking chemical containers.

Overused electrical outlets – Most business use many different kinds of devices and computers. These can create power surges and other issues. Make sure your circuits are large enough to manage these devices.

Birds and animal issues – Birds and some animals can create nests in vents and other ventilation systems. This can cause a back-flow of exhaust causing injury and fire. Check outdoor light fixtures and other outdoor areas where birds or animals might nest, and eliminate any nests you find.

We can help you better understand how a business insurance policy can help your business stay in business with the right coverage.
